What's the point of the back seam in determinate pairs of pantyhose?
Pantyhose and back seam pantyhose are two entirely differing styles of hose. I do like them both, even the back seam, although you have to be more cautious when wearing the back seam ones to keep the seams straight. The backseam is somewhat started as a fashion look from before seamless technology came about and backseams were required to complete the yarn weaves.
For certain, the contrast seam down the back elongates the leg, and I guess the seam does "point to the butt" (however I find that's a bit of a stretch). For some, the seam line can be considered sexy. Or perhaps it's the history behind it Some people say only prostitutes wore them but wew know that is not true.
It is a retro look. Back in the "olden days"when they weren't called pantyhose, they were called stockings. The stockings were made of silk and had to be seamed in the back just to make the stockings complete. Then over again, during World War II, when there was no silk to be had - it all went to parachutes - women literally drew seams down the backs of their legs.
Moreover, It's the nature of the garment itself as you you know it's there - the line tells you so - but you can see right through it anyway, and guys instinctively acknowledge to something they can see through (and, they hope, get to remove). Back seam pantyhose are considered sexy most likely owing to the seamed line that draws the attention of the eyes to the legs. Your eyes will tend to follow the line from the ankles up the legs to where the line stops (depending on how long the skirt is). So in other words, it is playing with the visual sensors of the human brain.
I recently purchased two kinds of back seam pantyhose one with control top and one without to see how people would react to seeing them.
The first back seam pantyhose was a pair of SPANX Control Top Back Seam Pattern Pantyhose Hosiery. They are a moderate control pantyhose which smoothes tummy, thighs, and rear. It has a sheer, stretch nylon. Sexy eye-catching back seam plus the waistband is soft, and non-binding. They have an invisible reinforced toe for comfort and a convenient cotton gusset. I wore it with a short dress in place of underwear as you don't need it. I asked my girlfriends thought they were nice and wanted to know where I got them from.
The second back seam pantyhose was a pair of Berkshire Trend Sheer Leg Back Seam Pantyhose which has a non control top and an invisible toe trend legwear for an updated look. Now these were convenient as I was wearing a short dress with a back slit and I didn't want the any control top to show. Sure enough, hubby was excited by the look and not only him!
The bottom line is, some women think the line on the leg does look sexy like I do and some don't. But each to their own.
