Hosiery and lingerie for your wedding day can be found in many shapes and sizes, from silk stockings to corsets and more fancy thigh highs, stockings and pantyhose.
For an average modern woman, wearing stockings is a must, especially when paired together with high heels for her office wear. Stockings are a type of close fitting, sheer leg covering, similar to pantyhose. When you are facing the big day of your wedding there are several options on hosiery to keep in mind.
First and foremost is what style works best with your gown silhouette and fabric. Wearing a form-fitting sheath? If you're going for the Cinderella experience in a full ball gown, your options are many, from sheer-to-waist to control top and even to knee-highs (gasp!). Can you see your toes? You need sandalfoot (also known as sandaltoe) hose. These have a sheer toe, as opposed to a reinforced one, and are more appropriate for open-toed shoes. Reinforced-toe styles are perfectly acceptable with pumps or other closed-toe shoes, and the heavier stitching may be preferable for added durability. Almost all hosiery styles are available in either sheer or reinforced toe.
Remember all the subtle hues available for your wedding gown fabric. The more popular choice is sheer hosiery for a sleek, sexy look. Many sheer, skin tone-enhancing hosiery styles are virtually invisible against the leg, and are available in a variety of subtle tints, such as alabaster, linen, and "beyond petal".
To avoid UN-bridelike squirming and pulling, get the right size, shape, and style of hosiery for your body. If you don't want to wear anything you’ve never tried before, such as a garter belt or control top pantyhose, there are comfortable alternatives. Body shapers and control hose offer varying degrees of support, as well as girdle top, with a sewn-in girdle for maximum tummy tucking; firm support, with a heavier weave for optimum graduated support, for variable tightness up and down the legs; and light support, for lighter leg compression.
Stockings for weddings come in a variety of colors and designs. They are usually available in skin or flesh tones. Stockings are also available in a variety of types and designs. One such type is the suspender stockings, which are worn with and held up by suspenders, or garter belts.
Some women prefer wearing suspender stockings as they combine the usefulness of suspenders and the effect and purpose of stockings. If you do not want to wear thigh high stockings there are lots of other hosiery to choose from. The important thing is that you are comfortable in them.
The preference for your wedding day is of course white hosiery but it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. I personally had white thigh highs with a garter on each leg {hubby had to get one off with his teeth without ruining my stocking lol}.
All that has to do with hosiery: from pantyhose and stockings to lingerie and tights
