Hosiery for a Professional Business Lady

hosiery
It is not unusual for the Spring/Summer season to bring about a hosiery uprising. With this, it’s prudent for a company to issue seasonal updates or guidelines that address the hosiery question in particular. As far as the women in the office are concerned, the environment is usually air conditioned; as a consequence, I have found that frequency of wear makes hosiery far more comfortable, just as ties are for men when they’re accustomed to wearing them.

True, hosiery in the summer heat can be tough, though many conservative corporations require it. Your best bet is to choose ultra sheer or transparent hosiery that closely matches your skin tone. This will give you that bare leg look while still conforming to your office dress code. And if peep-toe shoes are allowed, go for it! I work for an extremely conservative financial institution and our dress code requires us to wear hose with skirts and dresses. This requires closed-toe shoes although the dress code allows for peep-toe shoes.

Even today, bare legs are not considered professional in most business environments. The creative industries are sometimes the exception, such as the beauty, fashion, art, theater, and advertising industries.

It is legal for an employer to set professional dress guidelines for employees, including requiring hosiery. They can’t allow one woman (or a few women) not to wear hosiery because she complains that they are uncomfortable and then continue to make the other women wear them.

In several restaurants and bars for instance, all the waitresses are required to wear pantyhose to make them look professional. Most of the casinos have lots of scantily-scad cocktail waitresses in pantyhose and little else except a skimpy outfit. Men and women love looking at and admiring females dressed in pantyhose. ... Secretary, flight stewardess, Hooters waitress, cheerleaders are a very common '... And don’t forget hot and ready hooters waitresses serving up hot nylon covered thighs by request. ...

Black usually is the color of choice by men and women, not only can it be mixed with many outfits and still look good, but the way it changes colors/sheens as the legs moves..makes it sexy! Some tan or nude ones just look like a diner waitress and that is NOT HOT!! Some gray ones looks like a cheap black...that is not hot. White is a classy color, but only when worn with the right outfit. If they move to other colors, well again, the outfit just has to match and make sure the pantyhose material is of good quality!!! That sometimes makes all the difference!

Even if it has been stylish to not wear hosiery, but that’s more of a social or leisure look for women, not professional apparel. They may want to recommend that they wear skin-toned hosiery to meet the company dress code standards and to appear at the same time fashionable and professional. Conversely, hosiery is making a big fashion comeback and is now in vogue again, even this summer, and even darker-toned styles. Some companies make hosiery concessions for summer, but with certain restrictions. For example, if hosiery is not worn, women must wear pants, long skirts, or knee-length (or longer) short skirts (no above-the-knee lengths). Without these qualifications, shorts may as well be allowed, particularly when a woman is sitting.

Do you think women should wear hosiery in a typical business environment?
