Thigh Highs are Convenient

In the last few years, pantyhose have won over legions of women, as more makers mingled hosiery with all kinds of shaper foundations. Yet thigh-high styles command as much as 10% of the hosiery marketplace, and more women are reviving them. With dresses back in fashion, the thigh-high category is having a small sales increase. Young women who always wore pants and didn't grow up wearing pantyhose are among the hottest fans.

Thigh-highs now come in opaque, fishnet and patterned styles, as well as sheer, and they are all designed to stay up without garters. They don't need to be particularly tight: It's the skinny strips of silicone attached to the inside band of the hosiery that keep them in place. Study the size chart on the package, and go up a size if you fall between sizes, so the hosiery is long enough, hitting the top of your thigh, to keep the tops from showing when you move or bend.

Thigh-highs should feel comfortable and not like there's a rubber band jabbing into your thighs.

Thigh-High Stocking Types

There are two common categories of thigh-high stockings on the market nowadays: conventional thigh-highs and thigh-highs with a built-in elasticized band around the top. The built-in elasticized band can keep your stockings in place without the need for garters. Nevertheless, some women find the elastic uncomfortable.

With traditional thigh-highs, you will need garters to keep the stockings from falling down. With the type featuring the built-in elasticized band, garters can offer extra support.

As with pantyhose, it may take some trial and error to find the style, brand, size, and color(s) that best suit your style and tastes. Have fun testing with different kinds of thigh-highs, and try a variety of colors. They can provide an economical way to add some pizzazz to your wardrobe.

Why Thigh-Highs are More Inexpensive

Not only are thigh-high stockings more comfortable and more fascinating than pantyhose, but they tend to be more inexpensive as well. With pantyhose, if you get a runner in one leg, the whole pair is ruined. With individual thigh-highs, on the other hand, a runner only means that you need to replace one half of the pair. So always keep a few extra packs of each of your favorites styles readily available so you'll have replacements on hand when you need a single new thigh-high to replace a damaged one.
